Plan Proper Ventilation When Remodeling Your Bathroom

If you’re planning a bathroom remodeling project, carefully consider ventilation. Without enough ventilation, the moisture generated in the bathroom will cause mold and mildew and can damage the walls and ceiling. A window is useful for ventilation, but you probably also want an Exhaust Fan. Below are some considerations in selecting and installing a bathroom fan, whether you’re doing it yourself or hiring someone.

Choosing the Right Fan – Fans are rated according to how many cubic feet of moisture they can remove per minute (cfm). A 60 square foot bathroom requires a fan of 60 cfm. Make sure you get a unit that’s the right size for your room. Another factor in selection is noise. Quieter fans have better motors, larger housings, and larger vents, but they are also more expensive. Some fans also come with additional features such as timers or humidity sensors which turn the unit off automatically.

Vent Outside – Those looking to cut corners sometimes vent a fan to the attic. This is a recipe for damage to the rafters and insulation of your home. When the moist bathroom air hits the colder attic surfaces it will condense. You’re just moving the mold issue from the bathroom to the attic, where it can rot the wood. Instead, extend the vent through the roof and install a special bathroom exhaust fan termination cap at the end.

Electricity – If you are replacing an existing fan, you may find that the only broken piece is the fan’s motor. You can buy a replacement motor at a hardware store and install it yourself. Be sure to turn off the electricity at the circuit breaker before you start. If your bathroom renovation plans call for installing a fan for the first time, it’s a little trickier since you need to find a power supply. The most obvious solution is to add controls to the light switch and power it from there.

No one can deny that an Air Conditioner feels great. We, as Americans, are very fortunate to have the luxury of air conditioners in almost every home. Not too many Americans leave America and discover how the rest of the world lives, but those of us who have can enlighten the less well traveled of Americans about just how fortunate we are.

In South Korea, media commonly purports that Ceiling Fans can lead to death while sleeping. This has scared enough people that they have timers to shut off ceiling fans and AC units for those whom are fortunate enough to have them.

In Southern Europe, where the temperatures are very hot, most businesses make do with fans and natural breezes. In the Middle East and Africa the homes that are fortunate enough to have AC units use split <a href=”http://mikesairconditioning.com”>air conditioners </a> to conserve space. Most people from Mediterranean countries use split AC units to conserve space, as the residents in those countries live in apartments and don’t have the space to install large HVAC systems. There are very few countries, save for Italy, China, Turkey, Kuwait, Israel, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Lebanon and Morocco where air conditioners are actually more common than not.

The vast majority of African countries, where climate change is affecting them the most, have air conditioners or heating for that matter. Running water is sometimes a luxury outside of cities. In poorer countries than America, which is just about every country, people must save up for many years before they leave their parents homes and move out on their own. In order to leave the family home, they must have enough money saved to buy furniture and appliances with cash.
